Software Engineer - Ruby on Rails
1/5th of Medicaid spending is impacted by the social needs of patients. However, case managers who coordinate these needs are understaffed, and rely on paper based workflows, making their job even more challenging. A startup I'm working with has developed a SaaS platform to provide an efficient workflow to care coordination, providing a meaningful mission to society.
Founded in 2013 with $9.5M in funding, they're currently at 45 employees, and 12 on the engineering team. They're SaaS platform provides social workers with a suite of tools that connect them with hospitals, insurers, and geographic search functions to build care plans for high need individuals. This includes mental health programs, housing, food supplies, etc.
The platform systematically addresses social needs pain points. They start with a screening tool that assess a patient's social needs, and then uses data to refer patients to the best resources, and automates follow ups via interactive texts. This information is relayed back to the case manager in a dashboard, making their case management portfolio easier to manage.
The team has a lot of upcoming work with building search discovery features, user notifications (interactive follow up messages), and administrator analytics reporting. The team likes to split into subsets of 3, allowing employees to rotate pairing with different team members, and working on each part of the platform. They iterate rapidly and release new major features every 6 weeks.
